Two issues in one? Since we know some of you will write to us and ask what's going on, let me explain up front (pun intended). This will save you a postage stamp and us headaches.
As you turn the pages you'll find two or three lengthy articles. (Some people might call them long-winded, but I never stoop to such epithets, only partly because the lengthiest is mine.) Normally we trim lengthy articles, trying to keep them within six pages because we have only 32 pages to play with each month. If we can't trim, we serialize over two issues.
That has worked well in the past, but it doesn't seem to work right now. My ten-page article on Catholic Answers' visit with John Paul II and T. L. Frazier's article on the Assumption need to be read, we think, in one sitting. We don't want to drop information most of our readers would like to see, and we don't want to serialize. So we stuck two issues together. In a double-wide issue, lengthy articles don't seem so long and go down easier.
But please note: What you have in your hands counts as both the May and June issues because it is the May and June issues. Please don't ask us if we're going to "extend" your subscription for an extra issue, because the answer is "No." You're getting all your issues; it just happens that two of them are bound together in this handsome package.
